Traffic problems around Newark

Ballards removals in and around Newark

If you want up to date information about road works and other traffic problems – ask a removal man!

As we’re travelling up and down the A1 and around Newark, Retford and surrounding areas every day, we tend to know what’s going on. When we’re travelling further afield, we check with reliable sources like the AA, to identify any potential problems on our journey so we can plan alternative routes and factor in some extra journey time.

Arriving on time is critical to Ballards

At Ballards, we pride ourselves on customer service and on removal day, that starts with arriving on time! We also try to do everything we can to get your possessions to their new destination as quickly and safely as possible.

Newark road works and delays

Over the last month or so, we’ve been very aware of the roadworks on the A1, one of the most important routes in the UK and critical to people living in our area. Although only an A road in this area, much of the A1 is a motorway and actually links London and Edinburgh, as well as many other cities and towns along the way. So it’s no wonder that it’s busy and as it’s only 2 lanes, the closure of one lane can have a serious impact on traffic flow.

Back in the days of stagecoach travel, Dick Turpin and other highwaymen were regular users of the A1 and no doubt caused some traffic problems themselves, although we can’t really blame him now as he’s been dead for 300 years!

These days, apart from the occasional spell of bad weather and accidents, which of course no-one can predict, the problems are mainly due to roadworks, on ongoing problem which perhaps can’t be avoided.

The recent bad weather slowed things down a bit, as it did everywhere in the country and the ongoing programme of roadworks means that there’s usually something going on which will slow you down.

At the time of writing, there are lane closures southbound between the A46 at Newark and the A52 at Grantham, due to barrier repairs. Also Northbound between Newark and Markham Moor. There are more A1 roadworks planned to improve drainage starting soon, although these should only cause disruption overnight, as far as we’re aware.

Newark town centre congestion

Travelling into and through Newark Town Centre can often be a problem with delays on some of the major approach roads and recently a problem on Catergate as the result of a new one-way system, which we believe will be in place until sometime in June.

One positive piece of news though, is the new forecourt and car park at Newark Northgate Station, which opened 6th April. The aims of this included easing traffic congestion around the station, so hopefully that will help rail travellers and other people needing to travel close to the station.

“Congestion” seems to be the buzzword around here just now, and by that I don’t mean the winter colds which have been going around (although we’ve had those too).

Using our local Newark knowledge

Because we know the Newark area so well, we always have alternatives routes up our sleeves should problems occur. And we make sure we allow the right amount of time to get from A to B.
