We have filmed a series of useful, informative videos with our Group Managing Director – Matt Ballard – to help you learn to pack like a pro for your next move!
STEP ONE – BUILDING BOXES
Whilst building boxes may seem like an easy task, it’s actually a very important step to get right. A wrongly built box may have weaknesses, meaning that it may not support your belongings and could result in costly breakages.
At Ballards, we can provide you with industry-standard materials to ensure that all of your products are of the best quality – even if you choose to pack yourself.
STEP TWO – PACKING PLATES
When packing plates, it’s important to create a base or a ‘cushion’ for your breakable, using our white reused paper. You can also use bedding and towels for your cushioning too.
In this video, Matt will talk you through (and demonstrate) the most efficient way to pack plates to prevent any breakages, and utilise the space in the box.
REMEMBER – pack your plates vertically!
STEP THREE – GLASSES & TUMBLERS
Tumblers are very strong – but only if you stack them one way! Make sure to pack your tumbler glasses upside down in your boxes to prevent any breakages.
We recommend wrapping up all glasses/tumblers individually using recyclable paper to make sure they’re safe and secure throughout the journey.
STEP FOUR – MUGS & STEMMED GLASSES
Cup handles can be an awkward one to pack – but we’ve done it thousands of times here at Ballards! The trick is to treat the handle as a normal part of the package when wrapping it up.
Stemmed glasses can be tricky too – make sure to gather extra paper around the stem to offer it that extra protection.
STEP FIVE – PADDING & SEALING A BOX
It’s very important when packing to make sure that the box is FULL – if it’s not, then the items are much more likely to move around in transit.
Fold the flaps over, pop your name on the box and tick which room it needs to go in (and a brief description of what’s in there, if you’d like) before sealing the box up with tape.
STEP SIX – LABELLING & LIFTING
The final steps in your packing is to label and then lift into position. If we’re packing for you, we’ll typically write on the tape rather than the box, so that the box can be reused several times. Don’t forget to mark any boxes as fragile that have breakables in.
Our boxes are designed to be carried with ease – bend your knees slightly, and carry it close to your body to prevent injuries. It’s important to use proper removal boxes, as this will help significantly with your moving and lifting.
