Not every move we carry out involves someone relocating to a new home.
For many years, we’ve worked alongside a long-standing corporate client who specialises in repairing properties that have been damaged by flooding or fire. Once they’ve been instructed to carry out the restoration work, they give us a call.
Our job is to carefully remove the furniture and belongings from the affected rooms so the repairs can begin. We safely store everything while the work is carried out, then return it all once the property is ready again.
It’s a very different type of move to the ones we’re usually involved in, but one we’ve been proud to support for many years.
Carefully Clearing the Affected Rooms
Every property is different, but the process is much the same. Once repair work has been approved, we’re asked to remove furniture and belongings from the parts of the property that need attention.
Every item is carefully wrapped and, where necessary, catalogued before being transported to our secure storage facilities. This allows builders and restoration specialists to begin work without worrying about damaging the homeowner’s possessions or having to work around furniture that can’t easily be moved.
Over the years we’ve helped with homes in locations including Stamford, Peterborough and Leicester, with every property bringing its own challenges. Although no two properties are ever the same, some involve a single room and others the contents of the while house but every one is approached with the same care and attention.
Looking After What Matters
Many of the belongings we collect have sentimental as well as practical value. It’s never just furniture.
Family photographs, children’s toys, favourite chairs, keepsakes collected over a lifetime – these are the things that make a house feel like home, and they’re often the things people worry about most. We understand that, for many homeowners, these possessions represent years of memories as well as everyday life.
That’s why every item is handled with care from the moment it leaves the property until the day it’s returns home. We understand that we’re meeting homeowners at what can be a very difficult time. Although we might only be one small part of a much bigger restoration project, it’s nice to know we’re helping take one worry away while repairs are being carried out.
Returning Everything Back
Once the restoration work has been completed, we return every item to the property, helping homeowners settle back into familiar surroundings without having to move everything back themselves.
It’s often the final stage of a much longer journey for the homeowners. After weeks or sometimes months of disruption, being able to walk back into a familiar home, with furniture and belongings back in their rightful place, helps life begin to return to normal.
Seeing families able to settle back into familiar surroundings is one of the most rewarding parts of these projects, and a reminder that removals aren’t always about helping people move somewhere new. Sometimes they’re about helping people get back home.
