Moving house is exciting, but when you’re relocating from a large family home, it can also feel a little overwhelming.
We’re been helping a client move from a substantial property in Sutton-cum-Beckingham, near Lincoln, to their new home in Beeston, Nottingham. Unlike many house moves, this one isn’t being completed in a single day. Instead, it’s being carefully phased to make settling into the new property as comfortable and manageable as possible.
Why a phased move made sense
The client already owned their new home in Beeston, which gave them something many people don’t have on moving day – time.
Rather than having the entire contents of a large property arrive at once, they decided to take a more gradual approach. Essential furniture and belongings would be moved first, allowing them to get comfortable in their new surroundings before the remaining items followed.
It’s a sensible solution that can take a lot of pressure off what is already a busy period.
Planning the move around the client
When we first discussed the move, it was clear that flexibility would be key. Moving from a large property near Lincoln meant there was a significant volume of furniture, household goods and personal belongings to relocate.
Instead of treating the move as one large project, we’ve worked closely with the client to break it into manageable stages.
The first phase focused on the items needed for everyday life in their new Beeston home. Once these were safely delivered and positioned, attention could turn to the remaining contents of the property.
This approach allows the client to settle in properly before deciding exactly where everything else should go.
When is a phased move a good idea?
Many people assume a house move has to happen all in one day, but that’s not always the best option.
Phased removals can work particularly well when moving from a larger property, downsizing, renovating a new home, or simply when there’s a significant amount of furniture and belongings to relocate.
In this case, our client already owned their new home in Beeston, which meant we could move essential items first and bring the remaining contents across once they had settled in.
But phased moves can be just as useful when you don’t yet have access to your new property.
We often help clients by moving part or all of their belongings into our secure storage facility while they wait for renovations to be completed, a property purchase to go through, or a delayed completion date. Once they’re ready, we simply deliver everything to the new address at a time that suits them.
For some people, storage is only needed for a few days. For others, it might be several weeks or even months. Either way, it gives valuable flexibility and removes a lot of the pressure that can come with trying to coordinate multiple moving parts at once.
The biggest advantage is peace of mind. Whether you’re moving in stages between two properties or using storage as part of the process, a phased move allows you to focus on settling into your new home without feeling overwhelmed by everything arriving at once.
This move was very much designed around the client
The move from Sutton-cum-Beckingham to Beeston is still ongoing, but it’s already proving that a successful house move doesn’t always have to happen all at once.
By taking things step by step, the client can settle comfortably into their new Nottinghamshire home while the remaining contents follow at a pace that suits them. It’s a practical approach that reduces stress, avoids unnecessary clutter and makes the whole process feel far more manageable.
Every move is different, and that’s why we always try to find a solution that works for the client rather than expecting the client to fit around the move. Don’t be afraid to ask for a different approach
Sometimes the best moving plan isn’t the quickest one – it’s the one that gives people the time and space to enjoy the next chapter in their new home, their way.
